Hydraulic Pumps, Valves and Cylinders - Liquid propane cylinders are used on a lot of lift trucks. Several facilities are able to refuel their own propane cylinders, however, the majority will have their cylinders refilled in a different place and brought to their headquarters instead. If a lift truck runs out of fuel, the cylinders are changed. Several training and cautions is essential when dealing with propane as it is a very flammable substance.
Personal Protective Equipment, otherwise known as PPE, should be put on previous to filling or changing a lift truck cylinder. For the reason that liquid propane is really cold, it can lead to burns if it comes into contact with the skin. All the time having on thick leather gloves will help protect hands. Goggles or other approved eyewear along with a face shield is also highly recommended. Having a fire extinguished close at hand is likewise suggested before the refuelling process starts.
Make certain that the surroundings are safe from whichever lit cigarettes or open fires. Locate the fill valve on the cylinder and take out the cap. Then you could connect the fill line to the fill valve. After the fill line is in place, cautiously open the bleed valve. This would be a small spherical knob on the cylinder that is commonly brass coloured. A hissing sound may escape when the valve is open and this is normal so long as it is only air being vented and not actual propane.
Open the fill valve on the fill line extremely gradually, listening for whichever leaks around the connection point. Once sure there are no leaks, the valve could then be opened further. The sound of propane entering the tank must be audible. Never leave the tank unattended whenever refuelling and watch the bleeder valve through the method. A spray of white propane gas will emit from the bleeder valve as soon as the tank is full. Turn the fill valve off completely and next close the bleeder valve. Really unhurriedly and carefully take out the fill line from the tank. Watch for whatever extra gas caught in the coupling which would be expelled when the seal is broken. It must only be a small quantity of gas and is normal. Replace the protective cap on the fill valve. Double check all valves are entirely closed. The tank is now set and full to use.
